REGULATIONS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS INTO MALAYSIA FROM COUNTRIES OTHER THAN THE UNITED KINGDOM, EIRE, NORTHERN IRELAND, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, JAPAN, BRUNEI AND SINGAPORE

 
  1. Import License:
    The consignment of animals shall be accompanied by a valid import license issued by the Director General of Veterinary Services Malaysia or the State Director concerned permitting the import of these animals into the State(s) of Malaysia.
  2. Description of Animals:
    The consignment of animal shall be accompanied by a certificate containing a full description or identification of the animals.
  3. Veterinary Certification:
    The consignment of animals shall be accompanied by a veterinary health certificate issued by a competent veterinary officer of the Government Veterinary Authority of country of export, certifying that:
    3.1 the animal has been examined and found to be healthy and free from any clinical sign of rabies and infectious or contagious diseases of dog/cat, at the time of examination and certification, prior to export;
    3.2 the animal has been vaccinated against rabies using an approved anti-rabies vaccine, prior to export;
    3.3 the vaccination history status, treatment given and health status of the animal.
  4. Transportation:
    The consignment of animals shall be carried by aircraft or other mean of transportation direct to the prescribed landing place or any other airport as directed by the Director General of Veterinary Services, Malaysia or the State Director concerned.
  5. Quarantine in Malaysia:
    Upon arrival the animal shall be placed in quarantine and may be vaccinated with approved anti-rabies vaccine and detained in quarantine for compulsory period of not less than seven (7) days. The animal will be released if found to be free of any evidence of infection. However, where deemed necessary the quarantine period can be extended up to six (6) months based on risk assessment on a case to case basis.
  6. Fee:
    The following fees are payable for each consignment of dogs/cats imported into Malaysia :-
    (i) Import License: RM 5 per head
    (ii) Quarantine Fee: RM 3 to RM 4 per day (according to the size of the animal)
    (iii) Quarantine Certificate: RM 2 per head
